Marc Jacobs has caused a stir at New York Fashion week, after using two teen models in his Autumn/Winter 2012 show on Wednesday; both of whom are reportedly 14 years old.
Models Ondria Hardin and Thairine Garcia are no strangers to the bright lights of the catwalk with Garcia having been previously featured in a former ad campaign for Prada. Jacobs defended the inclusion of the teen models by saying . . .
'I do the show the way I think it should be and not the way somebody tells me it should be . . . if their parents are willing to let them do a show I don't see any reason that it should be me who tells them they can't.'
Last year the CFDA (the Council of Fashion Designers of America) issued guidelines stating that no teenage models under the age of 16 were to be used within any catwalk shows, however the rule was never made mandatory, so is Jacob's doing anything wrong?
What do you think? After all teen models are used in clothing catalogues, youth clothing campaigns, magazines and movies, what's the difference?
