New York Fashion Week

At last! At last there is hope for SS13. New York Fashion Week shed a strong light on what we will be scooping up come next summer. From Alexandra Wang to Marc Jacobs, models graced the catwalks in awe inspiring designs, even Victoria Beckham brought some extra spice this season.

With models including Liberty Ross and Erin Wasson Alexander Wang channelled his inner sci-fi with a futuristic fierce but controlled collection filled with surgical slashes, bold shapes and boxy silhouettes. Girls wore white jackets over lazer cut trousers and dresses giving it a touch of the Matrix ending with a finale to rival all others as a black light effect literally made the models glow in the dark. Wang's collection is said to be one of the strongest for SS13.

The sixties have never been so close to Marc Jacobs, the only thing missing from the show was Twiggy! Big bold prints in monochrome colours flooded the runway with hair parted to the side and stripes ranging from wide vertical bars to barely there pencil thin horizontals. There are many things Jacobs has gotten right in the past but this was innovation on a whole new level, with the applause from the crowd as proof of their appreciation.

Relatively new to the scene, Victoria Beckham's collection embraced a minimalistic sporty feel with black and white pieces as her main focus infused with bold pops of red. She delivered what was expected of her, her trademark 'grown-up classic' style focusing on strong tailoring. Overall one may conclude by stating it was a good if rather safe collection. Then again if the 57,000 new Twitter followers she gained during New York Fashion week topping every other designer as the most talked about collection is anything to go by.. well it seems the vision for her latest collection is spot on!
