Yayoi Kusama takes over Selfridges...

If you’ve walked past Selfridges lately you may have noticed the rather spotty theme featured in all 24 store windows… or perhaps the 13 foot half a tonne fiberglass statue of Yayoi Kusama her self at the stores main Entrance? Kusama, a celebrated Japanese artist renowned for her seemingly repetitive, rhythmic fixation with all thinks dotty, recently collaborated with Louis Vuitton to create a capsule collection of shoes, accessories and textiles.

The visual explosion continues inside where Kusama’s habit of turning entire rooms and their contents into canvases is put to full use. Walking in is quite an experience, it truly felt like stepping into another dimension or falling down the rabbit hole. Everywhere you look Polkadots travel across floors over furniture and up the walls; from the signature giant pumpkins to the vibrantly coloured hole punched lampshades, its quite magical and flawlessly compliments the Kusama/Vuitton designs.

Marc Jacobs creative director of Louis Vuitton described the instillation as...
“very animated and like Kusama just represents this kind of obsession with Polkadots... this round shape which has no end and therefore is infinite. I just think it has vibrancy and energy. It also represents I think a true collaboration.”

Showing at Selfridges the Louis Vuitton Kusama Concept Store at the Wonder Rooms at Selfridges is open until October 19th, this exhibition is a must see!
